Rested and Ready for the second half.
Or at least I am, I’m sure the players could use another day off after last night, or as I like to call it “The Greatest All Star Game Ever” or “Uggla’s Nightmare”. Poor Dan, I hope he got to go to Jeter’s after party. I was really feeling Ugg’s pain. You see before he was a dream come true Rule 5 pick from the D-Backs to the Marlins, Dan was the second baseman for the local AA Tennessee Smokies. He was fun to watch play, great long-ball hitter, and nice to the fans. Hopefully he’ll go out with his chin up, his team may be looking at an NL East Title.
Have to say that I also enjoyed blogging/commenting along with Mrs. Derek Jeter A.K.A Flairforthedramatic, she writes a damn fine blog, so if anyone other than her reads this, she’s worth checking out. (Even if she loves the Yankees!) It made those long innings enjoyable.
Here are my worthless second half predictions:
NL East: What the hey, The Marlins, for the Uggster. (Really, though, the Mets will outlast the Phillies.)
NL Central: No idea, none. The Cubs should, but really when have they not broken their fans hearts into a million tiny pieces. The Brew Crew has CC and Ben Sheets, but is that enough? And somehow Tony LaRussa’s deal with the Devil is still paying off.
NL West: No one wants to win this divison, so I’ll say the D-Backs, because they should. Which means they won’t, but it won’t be the Rockies because Clint Hurdle’s deal with Satan was LAST year.
AL West:The Angels. But if the Rangers get some magical pitching…………no, it’ll be the Angels.
AL Central: The Twins. Because the Tigers BLEW IT (although I love Jim Leyland), and I hate Ozzie Gullien.
AL East: Really, what else could I say? The Red Sox of course! Papi will be back, hopefully the bullpen remebers how to hold a lead and a good run by Beckett would be nice. I just don’t see the young Rays holding on, but………………………
AL Wild Card: The Rays, I think they just make it. Thats right, I’m saying the Yankees won’t make it for the first time in like 112 years. Sorry Flair, but Jeters home for Halloween this year.
NL Wild Card: The Phillies or any team form the Central, really I have no idea.
Of course I reserve the right to amend these when I see I’m going to be wrong, except the AL East of course.
Who here can pitch? Anybody, Bud what about you…..
I had decided not to live blog the All-Star game, and thank God! My fingers would have fallen off by now. I love a close, no one wants to lose game, but really is Clint Hurdle going to have to pitch? Although as I just commented over on “Flairforthedramatic”, I would pay good money to watch Clint Hurdle do anything more physical than walking to and from the mound. That man looks like he enjoys a cool glass of tea and a porch swing.
I was also avoiding the whole “Papelbon-Gate” that the media has somehow created. Look, as a young, and lets face it, cocky (as any closer should be) guy, Paps sometimes needs an editor. But what fan doesn’t want their closer to say “I want the ball in the 9th”? And Paps is on record as having “Worshipped” Mariano throughout his career. The quotes were out of context and blown up on a day when baseball should be celebrating and not muck raking.
What really hurt was when Paps stated he didn’t “Care if he pitched or not” after some of the taunts thrown his pregnant wife’s way during the parade. I won’t do the whole “New York fan’s suck” blah, blah, blah, having expirenced a far share of rude Bo Sox fans, but leave the guy’s wife alone. On to better things:
Its 12:55AM EST and the NL didn’t score, AGAIN. I really just want someone to win at this point. I can not listen to Joe Buck and Tim MacCarver any longer. My personal idea of Hell: A never ending game commented on by Buck/McCarver/ and Joe Morgan & John Miller.
12:58 D. Navarro TB: Come on, Rays Fever! Feel It!……………….or just ground out
12:59 JD Drew BOS: A Red Sox walk-off would close this place out nicely…………..or get there on an error by Uggla! Third of the night. Put Clint Hurdle in at second! Poor Ugg I watched the guy in AA and he was always really nice.
1:01 M. Young TEX: Josh Hamilton Magic transfer to Young NOW…………….or strike out, Drew steals!
1:04 C. Quinten CHISX: Hey I saw Quienton in AA on the same team Uggla played for, its gonna happen now WALK OFF…………………………or not. Tennessee Smokies Pride dies at the plate, on tho the 14th!
1:07 Waiting to see if Papi will pitch.
1:11 Three up, three down, George Sherrill does not mess around, can we trade for him?
1:12 Brandon Webb is pitching, this game may offically never end. How long did that guy go without lossing, like 5 months?
1:14 Line out to Tejada, maybe we can play with only 5 guys on the field and the outfielders can pitch, like when you were a kid in the back yard.
1:16 GradySizemore strikesout, how about a home run derby sudden death to determine the winner. The AL will go with Josh Hamilton, The NL pick: Clint Hurdle
1:18 Another K for Webb. You now that Brandon Webb had like, 8 complete game shutouts last year right?
1:21 Scott Kazmir is in and Joe Maddon is going to strangle Terry Francona
1:26 Kazmir walks one, but gets out of it. Seriously we voted him in, let Papi hit! The NL can let Josh Hamiltons old high school coach pitch to him.
1:29 Lidge is in, we are offically out of pitchers. Has Bud Selig left yet? A tie in the Bronx? He’ll need to be airlifted out for his own saftey.
1:30 Singles are worth two bases after the 13th inning right?
1:32 Ian! Come on man, Ranger Pride!
1:32 Alright Tampa Bay Pride then, come on!
1:33 A single? Come on, all I wanted was a walk off homer!
1:35 This is like JD Drew’s 12th chance at a walk off tonight……..
1:36 I said WALK OFF, not walk…………
1:38 Or a sac fly walk off, whatever. AL PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am offically declaring this the BEST All-Star game I have ever watched.
