Rested and Ready for the second half.
Or at least I am, I’m sure the players could use another day off after last night, or as I like to call it “The Greatest All Star Game Ever” or “Uggla’s Nightmare”. Poor Dan, I hope he got to go to Jeter’s after party. I was really feeling Ugg’s pain. You see before he was a dream come true Rule 5 pick from the D-Backs to the Marlins, Dan was the second baseman for the local AA Tennessee Smokies. He was fun to watch play, great long-ball hitter, and nice to the fans. Hopefully he’ll go out with his chin up, his team may be looking at an NL East Title.
Have to say that I also enjoyed blogging/commenting along with Mrs. Derek Jeter A.K.A Flairforthedramatic, she writes a damn fine blog, so if anyone other than her reads this, she’s worth checking out. (Even if she loves the Yankees!) It made those long innings enjoyable.
Here are my worthless second half predictions:
NL East: What the hey, The Marlins, for the Uggster. (Really, though, the Mets will outlast the Phillies.)
NL Central: No idea, none. The Cubs should, but really when have they not broken their fans hearts into a million tiny pieces. The Brew Crew has CC and Ben Sheets, but is that enough? And somehow Tony LaRussa’s deal with the Devil is still paying off.
NL West: No one wants to win this divison, so I’ll say the D-Backs, because they should. Which means they won’t, but it won’t be the Rockies because Clint Hurdle’s deal with Satan was LAST year.
AL West:The Angels. But if the Rangers get some magical pitching…………no, it’ll be the Angels.
AL Central: The Twins. Because the Tigers BLEW IT (although I love Jim Leyland), and I hate Ozzie Gullien.
AL East: Really, what else could I say? The Red Sox of course! Papi will be back, hopefully the bullpen remebers how to hold a lead and a good run by Beckett would be nice. I just don’t see the young Rays holding on, but………………………
AL Wild Card: The Rays, I think they just make it. Thats right, I’m saying the Yankees won’t make it for the first time in like 112 years. Sorry Flair, but Jeters home for Halloween this year.
NL Wild Card: The Phillies or any team form the Central, really I have no idea.
Of course I reserve the right to amend these when I see I’m going to be wrong, except the AL East of course.
Don’t call it a comeback……because it isn’t
Well, two days in a row, things look up, then they plummet down. First an attempted comeback, then a Manny sighting early to get everyone excited. Credit the Twin’s bullpen for holding it together, and gaze in wonder at Livan Hernandez, making any other pitcher whose had difficulty switching from the NL to the AL look like a chump.
Come on Clay, come back to us……the performance wouldn’t have been so bad if Clay hadn’t also hit his head in the dugout upon being pulled, something ESPN has shown 500 times already. Add Micheal Cudyar’s circus catch and you have two more reasons I hate indoor baseball.
And so long Julian Tavarez. I never hated on Tavarez…. that much. He had proven himself in several long relief and spot starts, but he suffered from Matt Clement disease. Brilliant one game, God awful the next. Not so sad to see him go, but he was a competitor, and had a firery need to win, he always tried to I do believe. So I do hope he finds a job somewhere…
So the Marlins have the best record in baseball and a payroll only slightly greater than, lets say, some AA teams? Must be inspiring someone, because until the split double header today, the Pirates, THE PIRATES, had won five straight. So God, or whoever, bless those Marlins and former Tennesse Smokie, D-Back Rule 5 pick up second baseman Dan Uggla. Maybe Texas or the Nats will become inspired next.
