Good one Mike!
So does Youk get to hit Mike Lowell now? As much as I hated the outcome, that was a GREAT game to watch unfold. Neither Beckett or Haren was giving an inch, with Haren winning out in the end. I thought we had a chance with Manny up and two on late in the game. He hit a line drive to third that I thought was gonna leave a hole in Mark Renoylds, who got knocked down but held on.
I love Mike Lowell, but I think if he and Youk along with Brandon Moss head out for drinks soon, Mikey’s buying. Right before he was scheduled to lead off the bottom of the inning, Lowells routine warm up toss across the diamond bounces up and gives Youk a shiner. The Gold Glover was taken out and Brandon Moss, who’d played first at AAA some, was inserted. Soon enough the kid bobbles a grounder and what turns out to be the winning run scores. It could happen to anyone. Luckly Youk’s ok and should be back tomorrow.
Hopefully, Masterson will continue his winning ways and we can right the ship against the D-Backs and give the Sox a chance to win the series. And Mike Lowell won’t hurt anybody……………………just kidding1
Youk Hates The Tigers, Beckett Brings Balance
Kevin Youkalis hits the Tigers like Manny hits the Yanks, if you don’t believe in th epower of Youk, you are a lost soul. Nice to see the team able to score runs on a Manny-Day Off. What’s happened to Justin Verlander? He’s not the only Tiger unerperforming, but I think the most noticable. Why doesn’t Detroit move Miggy to DH? I dunno, just thinking out loud…
After what could have been a demoralizing loss, great comeback, put it in the ace closers hands only to wind up losing, Josh Beckett does what he does. Comes in, shuts down the opposing team, walks back to the dugout and I’m pretty sure informs the bench that if he doesn’t get some run support, he’ll be throwing BP the next day. All 90mph+ and up and in. Josh Beckett simply refuses to be part of a losing streak.
By the way Brandon Webb has no idea what a losing streak is, looks like, or smells like. I fully expect to see the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse when and if he loses. The D-Backs are getting scary good over in the N.L. All those young guys from last year have grown more patient at the plate, I still wonder about the playoff rediness of the bullpen, but we’ll see.
FINALLY!!!!!!
So a Sox pitcher again throws a gem, and this time they manage to pull out a win! Of course it wasn’t easy. Just as Lester was throwing his one hitter through 8 innings, Roy Halladay was on the other side not giving up anything that would result in a run. You gotta give credit where its due, Halladay’s a true ace, sticking with it through nine innings, win or lose, a couple of times already this season. Paps closed out the ninth, and Dustin did his thing with the glove, saving a run with a great heads up play.
Papi was sent in on Youk’s single, can Papi get some credit for the hustle he’s shown, hitting slump or not? Its obvious that this team wants to win, I mean Manny’s stealing bases, ok a base, for heaven’s sake! Good to have Mike Lowell back, hopefully JD Drew’s injury is nothing serious, I’ve been happy for the guy hitting the way he has.
They say its a good sign if you can win the close ones, a walk off, 1-0 win seems like a good way to start a winning streak to me!
Oddest thing I heard tonight while watching Baseball Tonight: “And now highlights from the battle between the two top teams in the AL East………….(pause for dramatic effect, or maybe Rav couldn’t believe what he was about to say)….Baltimore and Tampa Bay.
Ok, I knew Tampa Bay was going to be improved this year, and you could see their pitching coming together, but did ANYBODY see the O’s getting off to such a hot start? Sadly I noticed Camden Yards was less than half full or so, first place or not. I know the folks in Baltimore hate the owner, but come on out and support the kids! I’m sure there are plenty of good seats available.
